How to Make a Record Was a Success!
We had such a good time with our How to Make a Record series. Here’s a quick recap:
Part One: Preparation // February 26th 6:30p-8:30p
Musician and visual artist Erika Holycross did a great exercise where she had people write down their dream project. This was a really great way to brainstorm and get out your ideas with no judgement or restrictions. Sometimes you have to put down your ideas so you can manifest them and Erika lead us really well. We also chatted about different ways to prepare and attendees came away with so many notes and hopefully a more solid path to starting their nexts recording.
Part Two: Recording // March 25th 6:30p-8:30p
Special guest music producer and multi instrumentalist Kito Denham was on hand to talk his experience. We really dove into questions from the audience and got into some technical talk on this one. I really enjoyed hearing different perspectives personally, and took a lot of my own tips home from all of the people there. We had a pretty large variety of experience and it was nice to see people more experienced share tips with people who had never recorded before.
Part Three: Promotion // April 29th 6:30p-8:30p
Matthew Morgan shared an in depth conversation, and take away sheet, about hiring a publicist, and doing multiple spotify playlist campaigns. He laid out numbers, and shared contacts, and it was so helpful. We also shared things that worked and did not work as it pertained to promotion of a record. We chatted multiple scenarios on how to promote your next recording.
Part Four: Follow Up // May 27th 6:30p-8:30p
To get the most out of what you put in after you record sometimes you need to shop the music around. Not just spotify and Apple but this time around we talked sync licensing with Heather Evans. Heather is so good at this topic, and so good at sharing her personal story and connecting it with the job of sync. This was a really enlightening workshop and if you need to get in touch, please get in touch with Heather for some personal one on one lessons with sync licensing, they are very valuable!
